Denise

I'm here at the library working on my program. Anyway, this is what i've done for today.

Inhabitant: Assassin

  • Gathering Space: (6-12 bodies) Living Room, Dining Room, Pool Area

  • My verb condition for this space is retreat. This is the space wherein the inhabitant entertains her guests and socializes. She portrays a normal life, the kind of life that everybody has in contrast to what she really does. In my storyline, in this room there is an ongoing party (the main target invited). She observes and talks to the person she is going to assassinate. The room is very open and very public. There is a lot of light coming in and it also has good ventilation. The space is very accessible and large so that it would be able to accommodate a lot of people. The space would be a combination of high ceilings and open areas. My skin condition would be in the charging position. It would have very low opacity, maybe 20-30%.
    • Fluid Space: (1-4 bodies) Conference Room

The verb condition would be charge. This is the space where they go about the details of the assassination. This is also the place where they review information about the target. In the storyline, she meets up with her connections in a casual way and they discreetly proceed to the conference room to talk about their plans. Since it is a very private space, it does not allow light to pass through. The room has an entrance and an exit that leads through the gathering space. The verb condition of my skin would be dominate.

    • Resting Space (1 body) Bedroom and the Assassins Hidden Place

The verb condition would be dominate. This space wherein the assassin rests. Her preparation area, which is hidden directly under her bedroom, is the place where she stores all of her weapons, gadgets, clothes to disguise herself and all of the other stuff that she uses to prepare assassination. In the storyline, after going into detail on how the assassination would go about, the assassin gathers up energy and rests. The following day would be the day of the assassination and before she leaves the house, she prepares and dresses up for the mission. She does this on the room below her bedroom. Only a small amount of light is allowed to pass through. There is enough space for the inhabitant to move around and prepare for the mission. This space could only be accessed by the assassin. The space is medium sized. The skin condition of the verb would be retreat and it would have 50% opacity.

These are the pictures of my ultimate skin module. I'll be making different variations of them (the variations depending on what kind of skin/ structure is to be used on a specific area). Although i need FEEDBACK, i'm not really sure if the skin/ structure i made is correct.

I will be doing my space configuration now.

i guess this is what will happen when you work on thanksgiving

P.S. this is not to be part of my pin up

    program:
    inhabitant-philosopher
private space-resting space and study space
    public space-the gathering/entrance
    fluid space-the library
"one is constantly in motion when he or she is engaged in thinking" -Dan Silver

basically my house will be designed for a philosopher and will have three levels. starting from the first level is the meeting room and entrance and i would like that space to have most light source to have the feeling of "openess", able to look outward. the whole building will then have a spiral walk way starting from the first to third floor. i really like the idea of walking/browsing through collection of books around the building so i want to incorporate the study space, library, and fluid space together.
i am still working on my drawing for my skin right now, i will post them up as soon as i finish them.
p.s. please correct me if i have the wrong idea for my fluid space.

today in the studio i did my facade(section) drawing of the house while also trying to figure out how i can position my skin. and so far i still haven't quiet figure out how i can do that. for thursday's pin up are we suppose to draw our house in full size scale or 1/4 scale? should there be a drawing of incorporating skin with the house? for my fluid space can it be moving space? or should it be something related to water.
    happy thanksgiving everyone~

denise's first thanksgiving in the U.S.

i'm working on design right now and on the day of the desk crit, i had four variations of my skin/structure module. This is a photo of the variations of my module put together. My goal for today is to come up with the ultimate module that would be based from my first variations.

I am also in the process of thinking about the configuration of my cube. I've taken photos of my cube during different positions and that helped me a lot to see what works and what doesn't.

I'm going home tomorrow and I'll be
bringing all of my design stuff with me. I understand that we have sooooo little time to get this done soooo...its crunch time.

HAPPY thanksgiving everybody! :) Have fun guys!

    Questions?

1.Dan its there any other type of structure in the ocean that I should look at?
2.Right now Im doing axonometrics of my joint in the 3 conditions as well Im doing the same for my skin what alse should I draw now. You mentioned something about a section of articulation can you please tell me if Im missing something and clarify what is a section articulation.

today's desk crit was really helpful in terms of helping me to develop my thoughts on my programs and building the house. the idea of incorporate stairs as part of the building was very interesting to me. but do we need to have furnitures for each rooms too? or just simply tell what the rooms are?
the introduce of human scale can be a tough one, i may have to fix some parts of my cube for that. there's still a lot of work to do...no time for turkey..

    Guillermo's Update Part VIII

Here are some pictuteres of my skin modules that Dan Silver  arranged during desk crit. Im pretty excited

    Denise's progress

finally, i'm almost there, one more to go. for my last skin/structure, i'll make it in such a way that they move in differeny planes and it should also be able to connect to other skin models.

    Guillermo's Update Part VII

Currently working on my 3rd skin.

Btw I am reading as well "The eyes of the skin" by Juhani Pallasmaa is a great book that Brian recommended
and let me borrrowed. I think that its a book that we all should read

    Guillermo's update Part VI

Cube is almost done its not going to be a perfect 9x9x9, its gonna be a 10x10x9 here are some
     sneak pics of the cube.
Please comment, that will help me to improve it

    first position

    Dominate

Because of this first model I was able to see what parts i have to improve. The threshold of this skin is not very clear so i'll try to incorporate that in my next model.

    More

In this picture you can see the  3 conditions happening to the skin at the same time.

I think this skin is pretty successful, in a way that the 3 conditions are very clear, but like ALWAYS there is room for improvement I don’t like that the skin can only be stretch in one direction I think it will be nice to see it being able to stretch in more the one direction.

Any comments will be highly appreciated

    Guillermo's update part V

    Friday, November 17, 2006

right now i am working on my skin and have some problem with the size because they are kind of weak. what's the biggest size we can use for this module? ex. 2x4 or 4x4?

    Denise

I'm still on the process of making my skin/ structure. Dan, i'm having trouble, i can't seem to think of an individual that would fit my verb attacking. I'm not happy about the individuals that i come up with. They're either too boring or they dont match my verb. I need help!

right now i am still brainstorming idea for my skin module while trying to finish my cube. i am thinking about making surface based on the different level, distance my cube creates when it's open. i will try to have an idea about my module before tomorrow.

i bought a new sketchpad since i'm so excited about the next project. i hope i come up with good ideas. still finishing my cube and also starting to think about the skin/ structure assignment we're supposed to do. by the way it's nataly's birthday! happy birthday nataly!!!!!!!

Ok after a few hours of sleep and a really helpful desk crit, my thoughts are organized again and I have a solid idea for the completion of the cube.

right now i am still trying to figure out how i can translate my cube into the skin module. i will try to get my idea down by tuesday.

    MY CUBE!
after the desk crit today, i felt so excited. I find the next project very interesting and i think that we are going to have a lot of fun with it.

    Sunday, November 12, 2006

my cube is getting there. i've made different variations of my basic joints and i played around the scale. Regarding the movements of my pieces, i made sure that i did it so that it would go into different directions.

    aLan

this is what i have done for today so far. so i take the suggestion from Dan and have different views from my cube. i actually turn my cube upside down to get the explode extreme that's why this is different from my previous extreme form. right now i am almost done with my cube and i will keep working on it for the rest of the night.

    Guillermo'S update Part II

After creating s lot of replicas of my joint in different sizes. I was able to start jointing some them.
In order to achieve this I had to modify some pieces to allow other to joint them.

Today I'm on my way to finish my joint the progress is slow but steady 'cause I'm trying to show a decent craftsmanship.

After trying to combine the idea of centrality and its movements, I am working on combining the pices together to make the joint work. I'll stay up tonight until I finish my joint, get some sleep and then work on my cube. I'm not sure if I still have to use the same shape for my pieces though so I'd appreciate it if you could respond to this post Dan.

i'm still working with my cube. today i figured out how to put them all together (an achievement for today), i just have to build it now. Now, I'm trying to do this as fast as i can because i have to have it done by monday.

    Guillermo's update

Ok I have got all the wood that I need to make the9x9x9
Last night I stayed until late trying to figure out, how Im going to joint all the pieces of the mechanism/Joint
that I have created. After talking with Brian Last night, he mentioned that my joint can be related to an arm and that I should think about Skeleton,Skin and Ground.
Today I'm building differnt sizes of my little joint to see how they can be related to each other depending the sizes.

hey everyone this is alan. today (november 10) i didn't have chance to work on my cube. mainly because i spent my time working on other assignments. my schedule is to store enough energy today so i can work more on saturday. hope everyone is enjoying their weekend!

    Thursday, November 09, 2006

    Denise

Today during the desk crit, I learned a lot. Now i have a clear idea on what i have to do for my cube. my plan is to replicate my basic joint to a certain number and use those to form my cube. Those pieces would be variations (i.e. change in length, height etc. ) of my basic joint.

    aLan

today during the desk crit i was told to fix my joint in terms of the connections because they weren't secured. i think i will use t-joint to achieve this. i also got some help from my studio mate, so i think i shall work on my cube as soon as possible. however i am still confused about whether i should change my sliding parts to 1/2 instead of 1/4 or not. i think using both would be more interesting than just one. for example, the 1/2 sliding joint represent a more aggressive movement than 1/4. so dan, can i keep my 1/4 parts if i can create tight movement for my joint?

    Denise's progress

So far, my work is coming way too slow. I really have to crank it up. I was able to do another part of my cube that expresses my extremes. Even though my work is coming slow i'm happy that the language is way more clearer now and the fluidity is good. The way they relate to each other is also pretty clear. this part is new. I've already made the drawings but i still have to fix some parts of it. As soon as the internet connection gets better i'm going to post the pictures that i've taken. The connection is sooooo bad right now, it took me an hour and a half to post this.

    aLan

hey everyone this is alan. today i start working on my cube and made part of my concentrate extreme. i want to create parts which can be locked on to the part i made today. my goal right now is to finish my representative joint and hopefully my cube by tomorrow. hope i will have enough time...

    Planning construction of the cube

These are some quick sketches of the cube, and how Im planning to build it.

These sketches are only for the settle and raising verb
